Tuesday, November 6: Right to Health

The first day of the conference was devoted to the theme of the Right to Health for persons with ID and to an overview of the resources available to them.

The Montreal Declaration on Intellectual Disabilities (PDF)
Adopted at the Montreal Pan-American Health Organization and the World Health Organization Conference on Intellectual Disability in 2004 by its 65 participants in 17 countries of the Americas, as well as the principal organizations commited to the defense of the rights of persons with intellectual disabilities, the Montreal Declaration on Intellectual Disabilities establishes legal standards related to the right to the equality of persons with intellectual disabilities, as well as a serie of measures to be undertaken in order to support decision making among persones with intellectual disabilities a context of respect for their fundamental right.

The WHO Health and Human Rights Publication "25 Questions and Answers on Health and Human Rights" aims to clarify the relationship between human rights and health by suggesting answers to key questions which come to mind in exploring the linkages between health and human rights.
